Stuart Sheldon

Chief Executive Officer

Stuart is an experienced charity and not-for-profit leader with over 20 years’ experience delivering operational excellence, organisational growth and social impact across the charity, education and membership sectors.

Before joining ECT Charity, Stuart served as Chief Operating Officer at the British Society of Gastroenterology and previously held Director and Acting Chief Executive roles at The Access Project, a national education charity supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to access leading universities. Throughout his career, he has led large-scale operational, digital and organisational transformation programmes, helping organisations strengthen services, improve financial sustainability and increase their impact.

Stuart is particularly passionate about creating opportunities for people who face barriers to participation and independence. ECT’s mission has a personal resonance for him, having seen first-hand the difference accessible transport can make to individuals and families. He is committed to ensuring ECT remains a trusted provider of vital community transport services while developing new partnerships, sustainable income streams and innovative ways to increase the charity’s reach and impact.

Known for his collaborative and people-centred leadership style, Stuart believes in listening first, building strong relationships and creating the clarity and structure that enables teams to thrive. He works closely with trustees, staff, volunteers, funders and partners to ensure organisations remain focused on the people and communities they serve.

Outside of work, Stuart enjoys football, spending time with his two sons and supporting causes that improve social mobility, inclusion and opportunity.
