ECT Charity Supports World Alzheimer's Month this September

It is estimated that 900,000 people in the UK live with dementia, including 40,000 people under the age of 65. There is still no cure and too many people are facing it alone. Transport is an essential part of living well with dementia – getting out and about makes people feel better, and it is important for carers too.

ECT Charity is committed to making journeys possible for people who struggle to access mainstream transport – such as those living with dementia – and works with organisations such as Age UK and Dementia Concern. As a Dementia Friendly organisation, ECT Charity staff receive Dementia Friends training which aims to increase their awareness and understanding of the condition. Our transport services across Cheshire, Dorset and Ealing provide some people with the only opportunity they have to leave their homes. Our door-to-door PlusBus service helps people living with dementia (with their carers, who travel free) maintain their independence, and our PlusBus for Health service can help those living with dementia attend GP appointments.

In Ealing, we are working in partnership with Ealing Council, helping individuals living with dementia to travel to their local day centre and door-to-door transport for users of AgeUK and Clementina Support Services' Day Centres and attendees of Memory Clinics at Elm Lodge in Ealing.

Living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia does not mean it’s necessary to stop participating in meaningful activities, but it does require support and planning. ECT Charity and its team of trained and friendly drivers are making journeys possible for people and providing a lifeline and connection to community.
