The Wriggle Valley PlusBus, which connects villages along the Wriggle Valley in Dorset with Sherborne or Yeovil has now been running successfully for a year. The service is ideal for people going to the shops or the supermarket – or simply getting out and about.
The service came about through an effective partnership between a Parish Council – who identified the need for a service and helped to promote it; Dorset Council – who provided grant funding for a one-year trial; and Dorset Community Transport.
“We’re really pleased with the success of the Wriggle Valley PlusBus” said Tim Christian, General Manager at Dorset Community Transport. “It’s been so popular that we routinely need to put on an extra vehicle to meet demand. It really shows what can happen when we work in partnership.”
Since launch, the service has already seen improvements based on passenger feedback. The route starts from Chetnole, then picks up in Leigh, Yetminster, Ryme Intrinseca and Thornford and Bradford Abbas before going onto Sherborne or Yeovil on alternating weeks. Previously, the service only picked up in Bradford Abbas en route to Yeovil, now all services pick up there, giving Bradford Abbas a weekly service.
To mark the one-year anniversary, Dorset Community Transport has confirmed that it will continue an extension that has been trialled since April – an additional once-a-month service to Dorchester. It starts at Bradford Abbas and then calls at all pick-up points through to Chetnole before travelling on to Dorchester – it’s just like the regular Wriggle Valley PlusBus, but the route runs in reverse.
We’re looking forward to serving the communities in the Wriggle Valley in the year ahead.
